Vathres of Samothraki(Patterns Samothraki)
Samothrace is streaked with many small and large streams, which spring from above and flow into the sea. Along the way, the streams form many dreamy waterfalls and cascades. In turn they form ponds, the so-called pedestals, where in most of them you can swim and they represent a popular destination for every visitor to the island.
Gria Vathra: Near the Therma Loutra, in the dense vegetation, is the "Gria Vathra". It takes ten minutes to walk to the first pedestal on a route with ancient plane trees, ferns, oleanders, wicker and mint. You will be accompanied by the beautiful, colorful dragonflies and the deafening chirping of birds and cicadas. Climbing higher you will reach the second pedestal, a small and shallow pedestal under the shade of the plane trees. Here the pedestals are countless. The higher you go, the more beautiful and cool pedestals you will encounter. However, after the second the climb is difficult and it is better not to try it without an experienced guide.
Pedestals of Fonia: The largest stream of the island is called Fonia, which offers the visitor a wide variety of picturesque waterfalls. Following the footpath along the stream, and after 30-40 minutes of walking, we meet the first impressive waterfall of "Gria" with a height of about 15 meters. Climbing several meters higher, you will see the "Gerania Vathra" with its small waterfall and even higher - the highest waterfall of Fonia the "Clavicle", with a height of 35 meters. During this route you will meet the serpentine waterfall of "Kakia Plaka" and even higher in the area of "Karia", there are many more small and large pedestals. However, although the access to the first steps is relatively easy and anyone can reach it, climbing to the next steps requires much more effort and attention. The area of Fonia is located 17 km from the port of Kamariotissa and 1 km after the organized municipal camping.
